Albegra: solving equations
Solving for a particular variable Remember to multiply, divide, add or subtract to set equation equal to one variable Example: ay = cb x s

Units Units must always be present as you solve!
Units must be present in the answer! Units can and do cancel out during solution! Units should be used to check answer for correctness. Example: density problem

Linear Relationships Y = mx + b m = slope b = y intercept
∆y/∆x = m b = y intercept Direct variation: straight line with b = 0

Parabolic Relationship
One quantity varies as the square of the other Y = kx2 Resulting graph shows parabolic shape

Inverse Variation One quantity increases as the other decreases
y = k/x or xy = k Resulting graph has hyperbolic shape
