15. Pyrolysis
Pyrolysis is a thermochemical decomposition of organic material at elevated temperatures in the absence of oxygen (or any halogen). By pyrolysis energy conversion of the material which is externally heated and decomposed in the oxygen-free environment of all kinds of waste and other materials containing hydrocarbons. The pyrolysis gas, mainly composed of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and methane, is cleaned and then converted to electricity or liquid fuels by gas engines or turbines.
