Sochi – the host city The Winter Olympics 2014 is officially known as
the XXII Olympic Winter Games. It’s a major international multi-sport event which was held in Sochi, Russia, in the tradition of the Winter Olympic Games. It’s the first Olympics in Russia since the breakup of the Soviet Union in The Soviet Union was the host country for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. And Sochi was selected as the host city in July 2007, during the 119th IOC (International Olympic Committee) Session in Guatemala City.

The Sochi Olympic Park was built by the Black Sea coast. It includes 15 venues: Fisht Olympic Stadium – ceremonies (opening/closing) spectators Bolshoy Ice Dome – ice hockey (final), spectators Shayba Arena – ice hockey, spectators Adler Arena Skating Center – speed skating, spectators Iceberg Skating Palace – figure skating, short track speed skating, spectators Ice Cube Curling Center – curling, spectators Main Olympic village

Slogan / Mascots The Games’ official slogan
Sochi 2014 The Games’ official slogan Hot. Cool. Yours. (Жаркие. Зимние. Твои.) was unveiled on September 25, 2012, to mark the 500-day milestone before the opening ceremony. The mascots for the 2014 Winter Olympics were decided by a public vote. It happened for the first time in Olympic history. They are a polar bear, a snow hare, and a snow leopard.

Sochi 2014 It took place on February 7, 2014. More than 3,000 people participated during the opening ceremony. They are from artistic groups in dance, ballet, acrobatic and circus. This performance was watched by a 40 000 audience at Sochi’s Fisht Olympic Stadium. Figure skater Irina Rodnina and Ice hockey player Vladislav Tretiak lit the torch.

Closing Ceremony It was held at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi.
On the 23rd February 2014 at 20:14 MSK. The closing ceremony was dedicated to Russian Culture and a lot of artists were joined by performers from the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theaters.
