3 NON-ACTION VERBS Examples:
Non-action verbs can also be called COPULA verbs or LINKING verbs These verbs do not show action. Instead, they show a state of being. Examples: is, am, are, was, were be, become feel appear seem

4 VERB PHRASES What is a VERB PHRASE?
A PHRASE is a group of related words. A VERB PHRASE is a MAIN VERB with one or more HELPING VERBS

5 EXAMPLES OF HELPING VERBS
all forms of the verb BE: be, am, are, is, was, were forms of the verb HAVE: has, have, had forms of the verb BE ABLE: can, could forms of the verb DO: do, does, did shall, will, should, would might, must

6 EXAMPLES OF VERB PHRASES IN SENTENCES:
I was doing my homework when she called. Dan has been swimming for ten years. The cowboy might have been injured at the rodeo. Joe has never been late for school.

7 HINTS FOR FINDING VERBS:
Word that end in “-ing” or “-ed” are usually verbs If you add “-ing” or “-ed” to the end of a word and IT MAKES SENSE, it’s probably a verb Words that end in “-ly” are usually NOT verbs
