Learning Intention To use action verbs for effect in my recount.

What are action verbs? They are verbs that you can see happening?

Why do we use them? To create an image of exactly that action.
To develop mood/tension and therefore meaning.

Examples The man collapsed into the chair. The grass whipped my legs.

Pairs: change the BLAND verb to an ACTION verb!
I walked down the hall to breakfast. I looked to my left to see if Jake was there. The wind blew my hair.

Individual Write a short paragraph about running somewhere in the rain.

Mangroves The mangroves twist in a maze. Human litter tangles around their trunks. Seagulls hover, scavenging for food. A rotted log, covered with green moss lies half sunken in the sand. I trudge through the oozing mud. Gumboots squelching and sinking. The air smells salted and sandy. I love the beach. Wayne – Year 7
