The SAT essay is an analysis essay. You need to read a speech, editorial or opinion piece and decide what the author is arguing (the claim) and what rhetorical devices he or she is using.
The most common rhetorical devices =
Logos – logic = facts, stats, data
Pathos – emotion
Ethos – credible source = is there someone who is knowledgeable or trustworthy who is quoted or speaking in the piece?
