3 Middle College History
Began in 2001 as alternative for underachieving students w/high potential Offered college and HS coursework concurrently Started w/10th grade Teachers roved at SBVC for years Added 7 portables for 8 years New campus opened in spring 2013 MCHS serviced 175 students yearly MCHS scored 800+ on CST’s Some students earned their AA; the average student earned college credits We had a high attrition rate; only 70% of students who began with us graduated from MCHS

4 Graduation Goals HS diploma Meet all “a-g” requirements
Earn significant college credit Earn an AA Degree or IGETC certification and take prerequisites toward 4 year college majors Maintain GPA’s for college acceptance Develop 21st century college and career skills (AVID WICOR) Earn acceptance to a 4 year college/university Receive scholarships and financial aid Grow in maturity, responsibility, and futures mind-set Navigate a 10-Year Plan

New School Campus opened in spring 2013 WASC 6-Year Accreditation with goal for decreased attrition

6 Prep 9 9th grade added to MCHS Called Prep 9 Academy
Preparation for MCHS acceptance in 10th grade Support for 9th grade transition to HS A school within a school 80% High Potential/20% High Achieving Added 4 staff members Increased school population to just under 300

13 Prep 9 AVID Elective Advancement Via Individual Determination
Students learn “college knowledge”, “college preparedness”, and “college skills” Students are monitored through AVID to identify progress toward academic goals and any support needs AVID helps us communicate w/parents (AVID Grade Checks) AVID is a regular high school class, mandatory for all students in the MCHS and Prep 9 programs (every semester class)

14 Academic Monitoring AVID Grade Checks go home every 2 weeks
Students required to maintain a 2.5 GPA with no D’s or F’s D’s result in academic probation based on Prep 9 CONTRACT Students have Supervised Study period 6 Communication triggers to parents are built into contract Portal Bi-weekly grade checks

15 College and Career Planning
10-Year Plan Career Choices Focus on Freshman PD Follow-up modules, Grades 10-12 College Fieldtrips

16 Prep 9 Dual Partner Support
College counselor presentation in AVID classes Completion of needed forms for application and registration All Prep 9 students complete a 1 unit College Class Dual enrollment classes planned on HS campus

17 Impact of Prep 9 Increased our 9-12 retention rate to 90% from 70% in 4 years Over 90% of Prep 9 freshman are accepted to MCHS Prepared for success in college classes GPA 20% higher for MCHS students Increased college credit earned AA’s from 4 to 29 in four years On CAASPP Assessments, MCHS ranked #9 and #11 out of high schools in 2015 and 2016 The greatest impact has been…
