1 Fear and Fashion Tackling Knife Crime

2 Three year programme funded by a consortium of funders with the aim:
“To develop exemplar, multi-agency projects working with young people to tackle knife culture so as to reduce the use and carrying of knives and other weapons and to provide positive alternatives and long term change” T

3 Preventing Youth Violence Seminar
Two pronged approach: Targeted work - in consultation with key stakeholders identify groups of young people at risk of weapon carrying for intensive behaviour changing work Preventative work - longer term approach in schools that strengthens the schools resourcefulness to address challenging questions about knife crime and ensures long term sustainability Fear and Fashion Presentation

4 Once young people have undertaken a leadership training course they are supported to deliver workshops that explore the causes and consequences of weapon carrying to other young people and youth workers in their communities “It made me look at myself and how I can deal with things differently.” Trainee youth worker I thought about my life and how I can change it.” Young participant

149 young people have been trained in conflict awareness skills Fear and Fashion Presentation

6 37 young people in Westminster have benefited from a more intensive targeted training programme in conflict awareness and knife prevention skills

7 “Taking the lead in these workshops makes me feel I’ve achieved
something worthwhile and I enjoy being able to give advice to other teenagers who might otherwise end up in trouble.” Fear and Fashion Peer Educator

8 12 young people have been delivering peer education workshops that support other young people to make safe choices when faced with issues relating to knife carrying

9 Over 400 young people in London, Essex and Nottingham have participated in conflict and knife awareness sessions delivered by Leap’s Fear and Fashion peer educators
