There is an assortment of portfolios on your desks. Each student pick one. Spend a few minutes browsing the 10 poems. Find your favorite student-written poem, and your favorite poem by someone else. If you find something that is spectacularly awesome, share it with your small group. When you are done * REAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDD

2 Peer Portfolio Review Find the yellow rubric tucked inside the portfolio. Flip it over to the blank back side. Fold in ½ like a hotdog. If no rubric, use a blank sheet of paper.

3 Peer Portfolio Review Reviewer #1: The Good Stuff Write 100 words of good stuff for the author / compiler. Favorite poems? Best images? Best effort? Make a connection here He/she put a lot of effort into this. Reward him/her with some warm fuzzies. Your name & per # Reviewer #2: If you find something that is spectacularly awesome, share it with your group!!

15 Q3 Independent Reading Select a NEW book that you have NEVER read before Books w/ movies are okay You can even see the movie!!! But you also need to read the book. At least 200 pages, probably more, and appropriate for your reading level You are looking for a FICTION book, or a non-fiction biography Not a textbook, not a topic (“auto mechanics”) You will need to discuss STORY STRUCTURE and CHARACTER. If you finish this book before the end of the quarter, you will select another book and KEEP READING There WILL be a book talk (slightly diff) We’ll discuss later.

16 Q3 Self Selected Reading Project

17 Group Work Each group is assigned an important piece of background knowledge, necessary to best understand The Odyssey. Groups will each receive a packet with information about their topic. They will also google for additional information. Groups will ORGANIZE the info, prepare a visual aid, present their information using the doc cam. Presentations should be 3ish min. Your peers WILL BE TAKING NOTES. No more than 10 words per paper!! No packets during presentations!!
