10 Military Coup Attempt 15 July 2016
The plotters linked to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) who had disguised themselves within the military for years, attempted to overthrow the democratically elected government, the President and the constitutional order in Turkey altogether. They attacked the Presidential Complex and bombarded the Turkish Parliament with the MPs inside, along with their attempt to assassinate the president.

11 Military Coup Attempt 15 July 2016
The FETO terrorists attempted to seize the control of several key places in Ankara, Istanbul and elsewhere, but failed to do so simply because upon the video call by the President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, the civilians rushed to the city squares and blocked the tanks to come out of military zones. Eventually the plotters started to surrender to the police forces after few hours. 248 people were killed and 2193 people were injured by the plotters during the coup attempt.

12 Military Coup Attempt 15 July 2016
The FETÖ terrorists tried to occupy the headquarters of TRT (Turkish Radio Television Corporation) and several national private broadcasters but after the resistance of civilians and the police, they failed. RTUK revoked the broadcasting rights and licences of 12 media service providers (radio and television enterprises) affiliated to the FETO/PDY organisation. Later on, these 12 media service providers and one additional media service provider were closed down by separate Decrees.

13 Military Coup Attempt 15 July 2016
On the other hand, the media service providers from all political wings stood against the FETO terrorists and all heartedly sided with democracy and thus deserved a great appreciation. Therefore, upon the proposal of RTUK, the governments reduced the amount which the media service providers pay to RTUK every month from 3% to 1.5%.
