Reminders: You are NOT allowed to use headphones in class unless you have completely finished your weekly humanities assignment and have been checked off by Ms. Allen! Also, the first 5 mins of class are ESSENTIAL to getting started. Please begin working at your assigned station at a level 0…there will be no questions for Ms. Allen or restroom breaks during the first 5 minutes of class.

Humanities Week 5 Please read and go through the entire powerpoint presentation and fill out the worksheet that goes along with it. All of the questions go along with the powerpoint. Some of the questions are fill-in the blanks that you have to answer for the presentation and some of them you have to think of the answers based off the reading!

Siddhartha Gautama A former Hindu, Siddhartha Gautama, was the founder of the religion Buddhism. Later, when he began to teach what he had learned, he was called Buddha, or the “enlightened one”.

Fairness… Many people welcomed Buddhism because Buddhist teachings did not support the caste system.

Think about it… Which caste of people do you think would have most welcomed Buddhism? Those in the highest Castes, or those in the lowest?

The Key to Happiness… Siddhartha Gautama (The Buddha) believed that they key to happiness was for people to give up all worldly desires.

Nirvana Buddhists believe that upon giving up all worldly desires, people will reach Nirvana, a state of eternal happiness.

The Four Noble Truths: The Four Noble Truths: Life has suffering.
We suffer because we want power and riches. To not suffer, we need to not want power and riches. To give up wanting power and riches, we must follow the Eight-Fold Path.

The Eightfold Path For each step of the Eightfold Path, you will take one step forward, because you are one step closer to reaching Nirvana.
