Good Spirit School Division … Who We Are
Our Motto ….. Students Come First Our Mission ….. Building Strong Foundations to Create Bright Futures Our Values ….. Belonging, Respect, Responsibility, Learning and Nurturing Our Vision ….. Learning Without Limits… Achievement For All

A BSC referral means you and your school team are willing to take on the challenge of trying a new intervention or strategy or perhaps tweak one that isn’t giving you the results you aimed for. The bottom line is that we can NOT change student behavior, all we can do is use evidence based research and data collection to change our approach to behavior.
4
When you select courses a drop down will appear and you will have a tab that indicates “My Courses”
Click on the Launch Course and select “Behaviours of Concern” and “Behaviour” if you have the option for both.
5
Here you can select a course that best fits the behavior that you have been observing from a student. Select the course and begin.
6
Most courses are only 13 slides long and will include:
7
R360 has used evidence based research to determine the best strategies and interventions to use for particular behaviours. They provide specific: School Wide Strategies Classroom Strategies Individual Strategies Communication Hands on Instructional Reinforcement
8
Once you have completed the courses that relate to the behaviours that you are dealing with you can examine the tutorial on “Behaviour” which will walk you through developing “behaviour expectations and classroom expectations that align with evidence based research.

Documentation of Interventions Who implemented the intervention?
Referral Process Documentation of Interventions Intervention Purpose Goal: Who implemented the intervention? Describe environment Duration (Start date/end date) Comments: Pros: Cons: Example: Proximity Control Decreasing the distance between you and the misbehaving student by moving closer to him/her. To reduce the amount of times the student blurts to get teachers attention in science, math and Art class. CT: Ms. Teacher 1, Mr. Teacher 2 EA: Mrs. Morning EA, Mr. Afternoon EA This intervention was used in math class, science class and art. Periods 1, 5 and 6. January 4th-January 15 This intervention worked well in math and science class as the classroom teachers were able to provide the student with the attention he/she was seeking without disturbing the rest of the class. Student learned that he/she could talk in a quiet voice (because he/she were closer to the teacher). This intervention did not work in Art class. Class structure makes it hard to keep the student near the teacher. Student continued to blurt to get teachers attention. For those students that come up at your Rti meetings regarding behavior begin to keep a running document of intervention that have been tried. Your first line of resources can be the interventions in R360. I recommend implementation for at least 3 weeks with fidelity and consistency before abandoning an intervention.
11
Referral Process SSC will recommend referrals that focus on priority behavior needs which include: NVCI team activation Use of restraint and/or seclusion Out of school suspensions beyond 3 days - supported by R360 data if available Significant externalizing behaviors - supported by R360 data and school team meeting
12
Once a referral has been fully completed and the Intervention Checklist and consent has been uploaded to Clevr it is ready for review. SSC and Behaivour Support Team will assign priority lead, which may be the BSC or other PSPs based on referral reasons, severity of behavior, R360 incident tracking information, availability, etc. R360 incident reporting data will help determine when the services of the BSC are required. SST should consult other PSP’s involved with student prior to a referral for BSC services, so that all are informed of the referral moving forward.
14
Differentiated Documents
These are a set of checklists that align with each of the 4 domains listed. BSC requires the student portion and the professional portion to be done for each domain. These documents can be found on the Portal: 1. Student Services PSP’s BSC-Consistency of Practice (here you will also find instructions on how to complete and submit, you will also find a copy of the INTERVENTION CHECKLIST and the Referral Flow Chart.
15
BSC and SSC will determine, based on the data collected and the needs of the school team, whether to proceed with a Classroom Consult or a Formal procedure. The main differences between the two are: the 2 half day formal observations, the types of interventions (Tier 2/Tier 3) and the overall involvement of the BSC.
16
BSC will informally observe the class, have discussions with Classroom teacher, SST, or any combination of the school team to provide strategies and interventions that can be used class-wide to assist with behaviours in the class. No formal observation is recorded on any particular student during a classroom consult.
18
Review BSC will contact school team to arrange for observation dates: one morning, one afternoon. BSC will contact SST to arrange a time to discuss the Behavioural Report SST is to invite all PSP’s that are involved with student to meeting. All members of team, come prepared to collaborate on a plan based on BSC recommendations. Set Goal and choose intervention and strategies to meet goal. BSC will provide the school team with support to implement interventions and reach behaivour goals. BSC will continue to monitor behavior through R360 and through regular check-in’s either by dropping in or through . BSC will be available to meet with parents when necessary to discuss the team’s plan for intervention. Throughout the process the BSC will use the SST as the main contact for the school team.

I will leave you with this.
