4. The Event
The remembrance in the Lord’s supper is about one event: the supreme sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, “this do in remembrance” (Lk. 22:19; Cor. 11:23-25)
The death of Jesus was voluntary (Jn. 10:17-18)
The death of Jesus was extremely painful (Psa. 22)
The death of Jesus should cause us to “give thanks” (Mt. 26:27; Mk. 14:23; Lk. 22:17)

5. The Emblems
The elements of the Lord’s supper contain two emblems: the bread and the cup, “this my body … my blood” (1 Cor. 11:23-25)
The bread was unleavened representing the pure sacrifice of Christ (Ex. 12:15; 1 Cor. 5:6-8)
The fruit of the vine representing the atoning (forgiving) blood of Jesus and the dedicating (sealing) blood of Jesus (Isa. 53:12; Mt. 26:28-29; Heb. 9:14-26)

6. The Examination
The purpose of the Lord’s supper is on one examination: discerning the significance and emphasis of Jesus’ death (1 Cor. 11:27-29)
The Lord’s supper should never be taken with a light-hearted, careless, flippant, hasty, or ritualistic attitude

7. The Expectation
The proclamation of the Lord’s supper is on one expectation: that Jesus is coming again, “till he come” (1 Cor. 11:26)
Partaking of the Lord’s supper “upon the first day of the week” expresses faith in Jesus’ resurrection and return (Acts 2:42; 20:7)
Partaking of the Lord’s supper is a testimony to the world concerning what you believe in (1 Cor. 15:16-19)

8. The Enjoining
The importance of partaking of the Lord’s supper comes from one enjoining: “this do…”
Jesus instituted the Lord’s supper during the Passover which was to be observed by the Jews (Ex. 12:21-28; 13:3-10)
The bread and cup have to be taken in order for there to be a “communion” (1 Cor. 10:16) or fellowship with the Lord
Remembering the Lord’s death each week is not enough, there must be actual “communion”
