1 European Urology Focus
Quantitative Image Analysis on Histologic Virtual Slides for Prostate Pathology Diagnosis, Response to Chemopreventive Agents, and Prognosis  Rodolfo Montironi, Liang Cheng, Antonio Lopez-Beltran, Marina Scarpelli  European Urology Focus  DOI: /j.euf Copyright © 2016 European Association of Urology Terms and Conditions

2 Fig. 1 This figure combines Figures 1 and 5 from the original study [12] (reproduced with permission from Springer). In particular, the whole-mount section on the left is subdivided into 14 sectors, 12 corresponding to the nontransition zone and 2 to the transition zone. The right part of the figure refers to radical prostatectomy, high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN), and prostate cancer (PCa) and includes five separate graphs identified as A–E, each representing a whole mount from the same case. Each graph has 14 columns corresponding to the 14 sectors in each slide. Normal-looking secretory epithelium, HGPIN, and PCa are represented in different colors. The vertical bars of the graphs represent the nuclear area in square microns. The median was obtained from a case without cancer and HGPIN. All HGPIN and PCa regions are above the 50th percentile of the mean nuclear area of the sectors of case 1 (horizontal line in each graph; case not shown); concerning normal-looking epithelium, 79% of the regions, including those of the apex and base, are above it. PCa=prostate cancer; PIN=prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia. European Urology Focus DOI: ( /j.euf ) Copyright © 2016 European Association of Urology Terms and Conditions
