Question Time In groups, you are going to come up with a Big Question that you want the class to discuss this lesson based on the concept of symbolism. Is it right that...? Is there...? Remember: A big question generates different opinions. It is an open question (not a yes/no answer). We can discuss it for a long time. Divide students into groups of 4. They are to write their question on a piece of A3 paper. Each group then reads their question to the class. Will we ever...? Why...?
12
Is your question a good one? Types of question:
Find the answer question Imagination question eg Look in a book eg I wonder if…. Ask the expert question Thinking/philosophical eg Miss, what’s the answer to…? Question eg if you can’t see something is it really there?
13
Which question would you like to discuss?
Blind Vote Which question would you like to discuss? The group whose question has been chosen needs to explain their thoughts and thinking process behind their question to start off the discussion. Students are to choose one question they would like to discuss this lesson.
14
Where have we got to with our discussion so far?
With your partner, you have one minute to summarise our discussion so far – be ready to feedback to the group. This gives those students who have not yet spoken a chance to give their opinion. At this point, encourage those who have not yet spoken to contribute to the second half of the discussion or chose students to summarise what they have been saying to their partner.
15
Summarise Your Final Thoughts
Everyone needs to give a short summary of their thoughts on the question we have discussed.
16
How did YOU meet the learning objective?
To develop the skill of showing RESPECT by expressing your own opinion and listening to the opinions of others.
