MLA Format MLA Format ~Clarity and Simplicity
The MLA (Modern Language Association) research paper method is the most widely adopted standard in the world, used in more high schools, colleges, and universities than any other. MLA is more standard in literary and humanities papers than in the sciences, but it is also used in those areas when you are first learning. It has achieved this acceptance because of clarity and simplicity. Papers will be prepared on a computer (advanced papers are not handwritten), using MLA format exclusively, and without deviation from its standards. For complete details see the MLA Handbook or the myriad of online MLA resources:

The Basics of an MLA Paper
MLA Format ~Clarity and Simplicity A one- inch margin on all four sides of the paper. The entire paper is double-spaced, including long quotations. The text is ragged-right, not justified. One-half inch from top of every page is a header with the students name followed by the page number. There is no comma after the name. There is no separate title page; the title information appears at the top of page one; this includes the student’s name, the teacher’s name, the name of the course, and the date; all of it is flush left. This is followed by the title of the paper, exactly centered. The title should not be underlined, put in quotation, or in all capitals letters. If a book title that should be in italics is in the paper’s title, then italicize only the book title. Instead of footnotes, MLA documents quotations or other borrowings with parenthetical documentation, consisting of the author’s name and the page number enclosed in parentheses, like this: (Gee 21). The author’s name in any parenthetical must appear in the alphabetical list of authors that appear on the Works Cited page. Subsequent quotations from an author may include page number only. Long quotations of four or more lines are indented ten spaces. The parenthetical for a long quote comes after the period, but for a short quote it come before. Instead of a Bibliography page at the end of the paper, MLA uses a Work Cited page. On the Work Cited page, authors are listed alphabetically. Publishers in the listings are abbreviated; Random House is simply Random, Harvard University Press is Harvard UP. Do not put the paper is a separate plastic cover. Do not punch holes in the paper. Staple the paper in the top left corner
