How to create: Find your next open page that is blank on the front and the back. Fold it in half towards the center of the notebook (hotdog). Cut three equally divided flaps (8 lines). WARNING: only cut the FLAP, NOT both sheets of paper

7 Speed Definition Rate at which an object covers a distance (how fast an object moves) Formula: Unit: meters per sec (m/s), kilometers per hour (km/h), miles per hour (mph)

Speed Example Jeremy drove 4 hours and covered a distance of 120 miles. Speed = 120 miles Distance (miles) 4 hours Speed = 30 mph Time (hours)

9 Speed Extra Info Draw and label EVERYTHING. You do not need to draw the horizontal grid lines. Object at rest/ stationary Moving away fast at a constant speed steady speeds Returning to start at a constant speed Moving away from start at a constant speed

10 Velocity Definition The measurement of the speed AND direction of motion. Also measured in m/s or km/h (unit for speed) WITH a direction: North, East, South, or West, right, left, up or down

Velocity Example A car traveled from Dallas to Austin which covered 200 miles in 4 hours. Velocity is speed AND direction Speed Direction from Dallas to Austin = South West Velocity = 50 m/hr South West Speed = 200 miles Speed = 50 mph 4 hours

Any change in an object’s speed OR direction (aka change in velocity) Three ways objects accelerate: Speeding up (increase speed) Slowing down (decrease speed) Changing direction (turning)
