2 Nuts-N-Bolts… Attendance at BHMS is required to be a part of the TSS field trip We try to keep the number of students attending the trip to around 30 for bus safety and packing space. If numbers exceed 30, we may look at the following things to determine attendance: volunteerism/$ raised prior to trip, health issues that might limit participation, paperwork submitted on time, behavior in good standing. Students represent themselves, their families and BHMS on this trip. Students that have difficulty with behavior prior to the trip, may have money refunded and be asked not to attend the trip.

Snow science & avalanches Glaciers and geology Animal adaptations and tracking In depth look at species of animals from the Murie collection and activities related to our evolution unit Elk sleigh ride with emphasis on adaptations of animals in relation to our evolution unit Snowshoeing and x-c skiing Research day

6 Field Gear Snow boots (No Uggs for the field!)
Wool or synthetic socks – 1 per day Coat – waterproof, windproof outer layer Snowpants or bibs – waterproof, windproof outer layer Fleece jacket or vest – layer 2 Long underwear top & bottom – core layer Warm hat & 2 pairs waterproof gloves or mittens Hand/Toe Warmers Sunglasses/goggles Day pack 2 Water bottles Camera Sunscreen/Chapstick Pencils & paper

7 Additional Gear & Items
Sleeping bag and pillow (separate small blanket allowed on bus) Indoor shoes (slippers/flip flops/etc) Travel shoes (tennis shoes or hiking boots to use on trip and between buildings in the evening) Towel and bathroom supplies Changes of clothes to wear when not in the field Camera *Movies on bus *Book to read on the drive iPod/DS/etc to use on bus only – Phones will be collected when we leave for the trip and will not be used on the bus for music, pictures, or other purposes. *Devices will be charged for the ride home if you bring a charger Medications for the week Spending money for gift shop or other stops

Fund raising (ideas) Sales of Chromebook cases, mice, and earbuds Concessions (proceeds from MS concessions will be divided among students going on trip in Jan)-money also goes to scholarships, equipment (cameras), supplies for trip and sleigh ride fees Clean up after bball games (MS gym) $40/hr Butter Braid Sales (Oct) Partial Scholarships available, but student needs to work to earn money prior to awarding scholarships-please see Mrs Melin for info after the meeting

9 Travel Letter with phone and other info prior to leave date
No shorts or flip flops on the bus trip! Preparation Deposit/first payment-$100 by Nov 9 (see me if that won’t work) Forms: Trip Commitment, Risk, Medical, Behavioral Gather Clothing-don’t forget a towel! Chaperones Trip Coordinator Tina Melin Group Chaperones-must be willing to take an active role! Will be selecting 2-3 additional chaperones as determined by the number and gender of students going on the trip Additional chaperones will be notified in Dec and will need to complete a fingerprint screening before being allowed to go
