Autoproducers Jun Toutain, Statistics Norway OG4, Ottawa, 4 February 2009

2 Case 1

3 Case 2

4 Case 3 The typical auto-producer
Recommendation in F29: ”Auto-generation of electricity from purchased fuels, with or without the joint production of heat, should be treated as part of the transformation sector.”

5 Case 4 Production unit’s own power plant
Suggestion: ”Auto-generation of electricity from industrial establishment’s own power plants, with or without the joint production of heat, should be treated as part of the energy sector.”

6 Conclusion Auto-production Increased energy efficiency
Cases where energy produced or transformed in a unit that does not have energy production or transformation as its main activity is sold to users outside the unit in question Increased energy efficiency Regeneration of energy internally in an industrial process, for the units own use, is not auto-production but increased energy efficiency in the unit Energy output from auto-producers is an important part of the energy flow in a country. Data collection should include data from auto-production as part of energy statistics regardless of the main activity of the unit in question.
