Past Perfect/Past Simple
Every morning, no matter how late he had gone to bed, my father rose at 5:30. The past perfect shows that one event happened before another event in the past. The past perfect is often used in sentences with past time clauses. Ex) I had not noticed the man until he spoke to me. By the time she turned seventeen, she had already learned to drive.

They arrived yesterday.
They didn’t arrive yesterday.(negative) Did they arrive yesterday? (question) When did they arrive? He had forgotten to call his sister, so she was angry with him. He had not forgotten to call his sister. Had he forgotten to call his sister?

Past Continuous 형태: be verb(과거형) + verb + ing
용법: Use the past progressive to describe a continuous nonstop action that was in progress at a specific time in the past. At that time, he was watching a movie. He was living in France when a flight attendant saw him. While the FBI was searching for him, he was enjoying himself in California.
