Mojave The Data Explorer searches the MDEP spatially referenced database for datasets by clicking on a specific location on a mini ArcIMS image or by selecting an area with a bounding box on the same image. You may also type in a keyword to perform a text based search.

In addition to searching for data on the MDEP server, you can initiate an ArcIMS session to view data within the Mojave and California Desert Ecoregions.

The data index shows the data on the MDEP server by type and theme.
Clicking on the MSS 1972 imagery within the Mojave region will result in a display of all the path rows for 1972 MSS imagery found in the MDEP database. You may then select the specific satellite image scene that you desire.

One of the most powerful features of the MDEP website is the ability to add additional GIS layers from the MDEP database into the ArcIMS session by using the Data Explorer function. The screen view shown here is a close up of the Alamo Lake area in southern Nevada. A search in the Spatial Data Explorer on the website for “alamo lake” results in a listing of all spatial data available for the Alamo Lake quad. We want to add the transportation data layer so we click on the “Add to IMS” button in order to import the transportation layer. The transportation data layer is dynamically added to the ArcIMS session as a new viewable layer.

Mojave Another feature of the MDEP website is providing spatially referenced bibliographic citations of scientific documents that have been published containing information on the Mojave Desert. This information can be accessed by clicking on the mojave map or, by selecting a specific area or drawing a bounding box on the map or, by typing in a keyword in the search box.

Citations that match your search criteria are then listed 5 results at a time. Clicking on the highlighted reference takes you to the citation. Listings with a world icon have a URL that leads you to a website that has additional information about the citation. Listings with a disk icon are documents or publications that are downloadable directly from the MDEP website. Listings with a question mark refer to citations that would require more research in order for the user to obtain a copy of the referenced document. In addition to data, the MDEP website houses a number of documents and photos. These are found in the Publications portion of the website.
