A Study in the book of James “The Testing of Your Faith” James 1:1-5

2 James 1:1-5 1  James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes in the Dispersion: Greetings. 2  Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3  for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4  And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 5  If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

THE BENEFITS OF TESTING: (vs.2,3) “Steadfastness” 5 Keys To Persevere Through Trails: Joyful Attitude: (vs.2) Understanding Mind: (vs.3) A Submissive Will: (vs.4) A Believing Heart: (vs.5-8) A Humble Spirit: (vs.9-11) The Reward for Perseverance: (vs.12)

THE ADVANTAGE OF STEADFASTNESS: (vs.4) (The 3 gains of trials) Maturity: “Perfect” (fully developed; maturity, spiritual maturity) Well-Roundedness: “complete” - whole or entire. Lacking Nothing: (equipped)

5 The Testing of Your Faith:
Break in the narrative, This is wear God begins to offer help for those in trials: THE NEED FOR WISDOM: (vs.5) Acknowledge You Lack Wisdom: Ask God for it: (Matt 7:7) Abundance is the gift:

Practical Application: There ARE benefits during the ‘Testing of your faith’ How is God ‘maturing’ you during or after Trials? Being ‘Well-Rounded’ is being ‘Like Jesus’
