2 Introduction Anglo-Saxons usually had big feasts in halls.
Anglo-Saxons cooked their food over the fire in the middle of their houses. The wealthy ate in mead halls and had feasts, and also drank wine imported in the east

3 General Information Anglo Saxons ate what they grew or found in the wild The Anglo-Saxons liked to eat and drink Pigs were important in the Anglo-Saxon life Most Anglo-Saxon were vegeterians They caught fish in the rivers and in the seas They ate a variety of animals

4 Fruits Most fruits we have today were not found in Anglo-Saxon life
Only fruit that was seasonal or wild was eaten Fruits of the New World weren't known to well in the Anglo-Saxon world

5 Vegetables Vegetables grown included wheat, rye, oats, and barley
Other vegetables grown such as carrots, parsnips, and cabbage did not look like they did today

6 Cooking The meals mostly consisted on stews
They used clay ovens to cook bread in Used water mill to ground flour at home used a hand quern Used seasonal cooking Honey was only sweetener Used wooden or clay bowls

7 Methods of Cooking Fried in a frying pan or griddle
Baked in a clay or turf oven Roasting Boiling in a cauldron Baked over a fire

8 Fish Fish were hunted out of the river and ocean
There was a variety of fish eaten Used nets and baskets to catch the fish Threw the un-clean fish out and kept clean fish to sell and eat Fish was often preserved There was a variety of ways they preserved the fish

9 Meat The Anglo-Saxon mostly ate pigs for meat.
Other animals that had meat could be used for something else. Cows produced the most meat. Sheep and goats accounted for 50% of the livestock. Hens provided eggs which were eaten along with their meat.

10 Drinks Used barley to make a very weak beer
Beer was drunk instead of water from the river because of pollution Wine was brought from the Mediterranean but only for the wealthy Mead (alcoholic drink) - made from honey, mainly made for special occasions
