WESTERN CAPE TOURISM, TRADE AND INVESTMENT PROMOTION AGENCY ACT (ACT 3 OF 1996)
OBJECTS OF THE AGENCY: TO PROMOTE TOURISM, TRADE AND INVESTMENT FOR THE PROVINCE POWERS OF THE AGENCY INCLUDE: To furnish tourism, trade and investment marketing assistance and expert and specialised advice, information and guidance to any business, company or association of persons who so request it from the agency To act as the tourism, trade and investment promotion agent on behalf of the Province and to facilitate co-ordinated destination marketing activities for the Western Cape To develop, implement and promote provincial tourism, trade and investment marketing strategies and implement projects that realize growth in the economy of the Western Cape

Integration of tourism priorities amongst the three spheres of government
NATIONAL Good working relationship with South African Tourism and South African National Convention Bureau. Joint activities include media hosting, trade hosting, site inspections, conference bidding and presence on international platforms. PROVINICIAL Work closely with our funders the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) on the delivery of the Khulisa: Tourism initiatives REGIONAL AND LOCAL Work with the regional and local tourism offices (over 80 across the province) on joint media and trade hosting, social media campaigns, quarterly forums, website presence and focused newsletters

Working with other provinces: We have developed a website with Cape West Coast, Northern Cape and Namibia tourism to promote the Cape Namibia route. (to launch end November 2017)

Support for growth of tourism: leveraging existing infrastructure the Cross Cape links small rural towns from Plettenberg Bay to Cape Town into a world class cycle route. This route will bring new visitors to small towns not necessarily on the traditional tourist map, thereby creating business and job opportunities for small businesses.

Support for growth of tourism attractions: The Madiba Legacy Project will develop a route that encourages tourists to walk in Madiba’s footsteps (Robben Island, Drakenstein Correctional Service, City Hall, Grand Parade). Statue of Madiba will be erected on the balcony of City Hall.

SMME Development: Journey to Service Excellence (J2SE)
Improving service excellence is a focus area for SMME development J2SE programme is aimed at creating a culture of service excellence at town level Training is across different businesses across the tourism value chain Aim is to upskill and empower frontline staff in order to improve customer service standards

Business tourism ICCA Ranking
Cape Town is the top ranked African city in terms of the number of meetings held Performance Between April - September 2017: Secured 18 bids Economic impact: R157.2m Private and public collaboration Creation of the Conference Coalition

The Legacy of Business Events
2 052 delegates attended from 105 countries 266 pre and post tours were undertaken During the opening ceremony the Department of Health was given the opportunity to present their Shoes2Move programme aimed at improving the wellbeing of less fortunate people through the provision of new shoes for exercising. (R raised, 46 pairs of new shoes handed over.
