POST REGISTRATION TRAINING AND LEARNING (PRTL)
The Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL) requirements are set down by the SSSC's (Registration) Rules. These state the training and learning requirements that all registered social service workers must meet in order to ensure their continued suitability for registration.

POST REGISTRATION TRAINING AND LEARNING REQUIREMENTS (PRTL)
Social Workers – MHOs (3 years) You are required to undertake 15 days (90 hours) of PRTL within your period of registration that shows how this has contributed to your professional development and informed your practice (at least 5 days (30 hours) protecting children and adults from harm) It is important that you recognise that you have a personal professional responsibility for your registration

WHAT SHOULD I COVER AND HOW
Be specific about what training contained, topics covered Give references for any reading and try to include professional journals Be reflective – eg This made me think more deeply about; this helped me consider…; I began to look at how I communicated with children; I learned that I need to become better at.. Avoid over-describing at the expense of reflection It can be useful to use case examples, eg this was particularly relevant for one service user I am working with who… Be clear about protection of children and adults and consider reason for this requirement

HINTS! Read guidance notes carefully and pay attention to presentation e.g. correct form Make sure you have met the required number of days/hours Establish the habit of diary-keeping of any learning opportunity from the start of your employment Have expectations about what your employer will provide to support your professional development Be proactive in seeking out appropriate learning opportunities
