Tobacco Free Policy – Our Journey

2. NBHS approached to design a tobacco free policy emphasizing education, risks, consequences and up to date facts
This would enable teachers, pupils and parents to make positive choices about their health

3. Our setting – sports centre and Primary School on the same campus
Issues with Primary parents and Sports Centre staff and users complaining about pupils smoking, bad image for NBHS
Decided on the idea of a joint policy, including the Primary School and the Sports Centre

4. The policy was sent to:
All NBHS staff
Law Primary staff
Enjoy Leisure staff
NBHS PTA
NBHS Pupil Council
S3 Prince’s Trust class at NBHS
S6 committee
Parents, via survey monkey

5. Speaking to pupils was key – we knew there may be challenge to the new policy
Scott spoke to the S3 Princes Trust class
Regular meetings with Pupil Council
Decipher Assist training for S2 pupils
S1 designed posters – made into professional banners and signs and displayed around the campus

6. Power-point designed and used at assemblies for all year groups – launching the policy and reiterating the benefits of being a smoke free zone
Awards ceremony – framed certificates for Decipher Assist pupils with guests
