Think. Limited amount of space & weight Clothes appropriate per season change. Comfort: Pictures of family & friends or anything that brings you comfort. Toiletries, everything is readily available in China. You can bring some medicine. China also has medicine as well. Ladies: Make-up, if you feel your specific shades will be hard to find. Specific feminine products? **Keep everything in original packaging**

Money! & Banking? ***Notify your bank in the US***
Do you need to make a Chinese bank account? No, due to the fact that you pay tuition to Bloomsburg and they pay tuition directly to Beijing Normal University. Benefits of having one: Can link it to WeChat and do not have to rely on pulling money off of your American bank card. If you do, you may use an International Wire Transfer In order to open an account you will need a passport, 100 RMB, Chinese telephone #, & an address The account # in China is the same as the one on the bank card that you receive. Expected amount used monthly for oneself: 3,000 RMB – 4,000 RMB
6
What happens if your bank card gets stuck in an ATM?
Well…first of all, I’d suggest when you pull money out of an ATM that you do it at a bank because you can easily deal with the staff and they are usually within range to contact. Remember your number on that bank card (wherever it comes from…) They will ask probably for the last four digits on that card and a way to prove you are who you say you are. Bring your passport as well.
7
Upon arrival… Arriving at BNU… 1. Check-in to your accommodation
Your 服务员 may only speak 中文。(However not always, some may speak some or a little English) You probably will not be able to obtain Wi-Fi until registration. Free Wi-Fi can be obtained at McDonald’s or at restaurants. Usually most restaurants have some version of Wi-Fi…

Other potential questions?
Can I bring prescription medicine? Check with immigration policies to be sure, but generally you can bring in some medications. Be sure they are in their original package and in your checked bags. As immigration policies can change, be sure to check before you go. From the US Embassy website: You may bring limited amounts of medications to China. It is suggest that you bring in limited amounts and have a prescription or medical certificate when bringing any prescription medication, controlled medication, stimulants, etc. to China. Is the water drinkable from the tap? It is recommended you drink bottled water or drink boiled water. Do we need to get medical examinations & vaccinations? If you are within China for 6 months or less, then the answer is no. Vaccinations are not really required, but you may consult with your doctor and feel free to do your own research. Do they accept visa cards? In many places you can use Visa or MasterCard, but not everywhere so be sure you have cash. Can you withdraw money in China from your American account? Check with your individual bank. Most large international institutions can be accessed from abroad, though many credit unions cannot be. Make sure to inform your bank beforehand. **Do not forget to notify your bank you are going abroad before you go!** (You do not want your account to be frozen and unable to access potentially needed funds!)
