The song is 3:38 minutes in length and was released on November 29, Adele originally intended to title her album the name of this song but decided that it was too confusing for her audiences outside of the United Kingdom. The framework for her album “21” was from her exposure to American country music. It gave her a genuine understanding of the blues and that suited her singing style. Adele actually composed this song the day after her relationship ended. Apparently they had a fuming argument the night before and she went to the studio and cried and screamed. While she was in the studio, Paul Epworth suggested that they write an angry, more aggressive song. They started to compose the song and the first verse she sang in a capella then Epworth joined in with a guitar. It took less than two days to record the song. Adele has reservations about working with Epworth because their musical styles were so different. It all worked out and Epworth brought out Adele’s voice to notes that she never ever knew she could hit.
