Useful definitions
Bullying – The repetitive hurting of one person or group by another person or group on purpose (e.g. calling someone a nickname they don’t like on the playground every day.
Sexual harassment – uninvited and unwelcome verbal or physical behaviour of a sexual nature especially by a person in a position of power towards someone subordinate (e.g. a boss touching the knee of their employee without them wanting to be touched.
Disablist bullying – behaviour or language that makes someone feel unwelcome or anxious because of a disability or additional need.

In the last month, over 80 women accused Harvey Weinstein of sexually harassing them including Angelina Jolie, Cara Delevingne and Kate Beckinsale. Women hadn’t spoken about this before because they were afraid of speaking out against such a powerful person.
Harvey Weinstein was a very famous and powerful film producer in Hollywood. He decided who to give Oscar-winning roles to in famous films.
When people heard the news, many took action against him. Channing Tatum announced he was dropping his new film with Harvey because he didn’t want to work with a bully.
A trending hashtag #metoo started in support of the victims of sexual harassment. 1.7 million people tweeted across the world.

Bullied students are twice as likely to consider suicide. It is an issues that continues throughout education. If you are aware of a bullying or harassment issue, raise it with a member of staff.
Support a local school
Bullying can be prevented if it is flagged at an early age. As a class, search for a local primary or secondary school. See if you can plan a visit to the school to teach the students there about bullying. You could run a session with young pupils about how to prevent bullying and where they could go for support.

12. Are adults setting a bad example when it comes to bullying? Yes
The scandals in Westminster and Hollywood show that there are significant issues in society with sexual harassment and bullying. Previous generations have allowed this behaviour to happen.
Hate crime has been on the rise in the UK since the referendum last year. It appears that some adults believe this is acceptable.
Even figures that are convicted or flagged as bullies or committing sexual harassment sometimes try to excuse themselves.
There is a danger that victims are being over-sensitive and should be able to deal with harassment or bullying.

13. Are adults setting a bad example when it comes to bullying? No
The fact that scandals have happened and that these issues are being brought to the media could demonstrate that bullying and sexual harassment is no longer tolerated.
Things appear to be going in the right direction, in Parliament they are setting new measures to deal with the issues.
While hate crime and bullying still happens with adults, it appears that nearly all adults would say this is not acceptable.
The fact that young people are switched on with bullying and harassment demonstrates that adults are teaching them about it.
