PROVERBS 12
2
PROVERBS 12:1 DISCIPLINE VS. STUPID
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Your response to discipline & reproof?

PROVERBS 12:2-3 FAVOR VS. CONDEMNED
A good man obtains favor from the LORD, but a man of evil devices he condemns. No one is established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous will never be moved. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law Galatians 5:22-23 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. John 15:5

PROVERBS 12:4 BLESSING VS. INJURY
An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones. Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct. 1 Peter 3:1-2
5
PROVERBS 12:5-6 THOUGHTS & WORDS
The thoughts of the righteous are just; the counsels of the wicked are deceitful. The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the mouth of the upright delivers them. Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Ephesians 4:25 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29 Your words?
6
PROVERBS 12:7 DIFFERENT DESTINIES
The wicked are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous will stand. “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also” John 14:1-3
7
PROVERBS 12:8-9 GOOD SENSE VS. THE PRETENDER
A man is commended according to his good sense, but one of twisted mind is despised. Better to be lowly and have a servant than to play the great man and lack bread. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 14:11 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, Peter 5:6
8
PROVERBS 12:10 FAITHFUL IN SMALL THINGS
Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel. His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ Matthew 25:23 Your character shows in the small things
9
PROVERBS 12:11 WORKER VS. GAMBLER
Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense. For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living. 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12
10
PROVERBS 12:12 WHICH ROLE MODEL?
Whoever is wicked covets the spoil of evildoers, but the root of the righteous bears fruit. For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 1Peter 2:21-22
11
PROVERBS 12:13-14 WORDS – LIFE – OUTCOMES
An evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous escapes from trouble. From the fruit of his mouth a man is satisfied with good, and the work of a man’s hand comes back to him. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
12
PROVERBS 12:15 THE FOOL VS. THE WISE
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice. In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes. Judges 21:25 The man who is never wrong doesn’t know his real name.
13
PROVERBS 12:16 SELF-CONTROL?
The vexation of a fool is known at once, but the prudent ignores an insult. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 1Peter 3:23 Your response to an insult?
14
PROVERBS 12:17-20 DIFFERENT PEOPLE – DIFFERENT WORDS
Whoever speaks the truth gives honest evidence, but a false witness utters deceit. There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment. Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who plan peace have joy. And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. James 3:6, 10 Your words: honest, healing, truthful, peaceful, joyful?
15
PROVERBS 12:21-23 PROTECTION VS. TROUBLE
No ill befalls the righteous, but the wicked are filled with trouble. Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who act faithfully are his delight. A prudent man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools proclaims folly. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 God has an eternal perspective: already & not yet
16
PROVERBS 12:24, 27 PERSEVERANCE?
The diligent hand will rule, but laziness will lead to forced labor. A lazy man doesn’t roast his game, but to a diligent man, his wealth is precious. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. Matthew 13:20-21
17
PROVERBS 12:25-26 A BLESSING TO OTHERS
Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad. One who is righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2Cor.1:3-4
18
PROVERBS 12:28 NO GUILT IN LIFE & NO FEAR IN DEATH
In the path of righteousness is life, and in its pathway there is no death. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ Corinthians 15:55,57
