Activity 1… Defining Essential Questions
Directions: In groups of 3 or 4… Divide up websites listed and for 15 minutes, research the idea of essential questions In 15 minutes, come back to table and write a definition of “essential question” On the top of chart paper hang up chart Gallery walk and discussion

Directions: In the same groups… Cut out cards (sorry ) Sort into 3 groups

As a group, chose 1 that you have identified as essential and write what an enduring understanding might be for it. What generalized real life knowledge would you want kids to know? Make a list of the things you teach in any subject area that might reflect that enduring understanding

Start to develop an inquiry based lesson with something you teach
Pick a VERY broad topic Create an enduring Understanding Write an Essential Question List what is Critical Content List what we will transferable skills Predict what will be non-critical content This will be used again to develop a constructivist lesson plan so chose wisely and save to your emints folder Use your notes, museum lesson plan, and figure 5 for help
