Root Cause Analysis Use data to identify a student learning problem.
8/8/2018 Use data to identify a student learning problem. Brainstorm possible causes for the problem. Eliminate from consideration any over which you have no control. Determine data sources to investigate the possible cause that seems to be the most serious. Collect and analyze data to validate or disprove that hypothesis. Analyze data, determine next steps (more data gathering? implementation of a plan?). Open up thinking to using formative assessment efficiently and effectively to improve student learning. Because if I immediately implement a solution I may be spinning my wheels b/c I’m not addressing the root cause. SDT trng plan: ID student needs, possible causes of those needs/ factors that contribute to those needs, prioritize the one that is having the greatest impact Brainstorm possible reasons why Eliminate responses over which there is no control Hypothesize possible causes Identify data that will verify/disprove hypotheses Leads to prioritized actions that, if taken, will have the greatest impact on addressing and/or eliminating the root cause(s) of a problem.
