larger land area in North Am. smaller population Christianity only religion used land for fur trade  friends w/ NA more land in France  peasants no desire to leave more concerned w/ colonies in Far East and Caribbean no elected assemblies directly depended on King no free press no trial by jury British smaller land area in North Am. larger population religious tolerance took land from NAs to build towns and cities economic incentive to come to colonies North Am. colonies most important self-rule self dependent some free press trial by jury of peers

5 Turning Point colonists feel GB not helping enough King puts William Pitt in charge of military - power to colonial authorities - promised to pay soldiers - more troops - replaced old generals w/ younger ones - NA allies British victories - capture port  close off St. Lawrence Seaway - take control of Quebec

6 War Ends Treaty of Paris 1763 GB gets all Fr territory in N. Amer. (most importantly ORV) colonists feel safe and secure with Fr gone - nationalism amongst colonists

7 Proclamation of (1763) American colonists discouraged by king to settle in ORV - too large to supervise - fear more costly conflicts w/ NAs and remaining French Royal Proclamation of 1763 issued - colonists could not settle past Appalachian Mts. colonists enraged - won war (many fought and/or died)  deserve land - settlers on land had to come back
