Define the term code of conduct Describe at least one code of conduct Identify the implications of the code of conduct on professional practice.

3 What is a code of conduct?
You all as students have a code of conduct What does it say? In pairs give a definition of what a code of conduct is. Why might something like this be important in a care setting? What would you expect a code of conduct in a care setting to say?

4 Some examples of Codes of Conduct
A Better Home Life Special educational needs code of conduct GSCC code of practice And Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct.

5 Let us look at a true to life example....
A case conference Into three groups A social worker A clinical psychologist A community psychiatric nurse What i want you to do...... After you have participated in the case study, look at the codes of conduct i have prepared for you and give a list of recommendations for how the professionals should work with these individuals. Include anything that you think has gone against the code and what might be the effect of this......

9 Friday 26th March By the end of the session you will be able to
Describe the essential components of a complaints procedure Apply the above principles to a case study. Identify the role of the equality and human rights commision in supporting service users who seek redress.

10 Frank Due to his developing needs Frank has gone into respite care for two weeks. On a visit to the care home Jenny notices that Franks room is in a noticably poorer state of repair than the rest of the care home. She asks the rather busy care staff why this is and they say ‘well he won’t notice will he’

11 Billy On a visit to the school the child psychologist notices that the advice you have given the teaching staff has been ignored and Billy spends most of his time drawing whilst other children are participating in lessons.

12 Based on the policies and procedures you have brought in and the codes of conduct we discussed the other day... Write a complaint that indicates which part of the policy/procedure/code of conduct has been breached. Give an account of what the care setting should do in order to properly deal with the complaint.

13 Unfortunately the professionals involved have not dealt with the complaint effectively
