2 Turku is the oldest city in Finland, located in Southwest Finland by the Aura river. It is a city of art, history and culture. It is believed to have been established in 1229. The word turku comes from tǔrgǔ, a word in Ancient Russian which means ”market place” With inhabitants Turku is the fifth largest city in Finland. Throughout history Finland’s the first capital city has been an important gate to the west. It continues to be a significant commercial port city. From Turku to Mariehamn and Stockholm sails passenger ships frequently.

4 How to get there It's easy for the traveller to get around in Turku and the Southwest-Finland region either in own vehicle, as well as on public transportation. There is an efficient public transportation system, and longer distances are covered in the comfort of long-distance buses and trains. There is an international airport and passenger ferry harbour in Turku. Dozens of bands, artists and area performers will be performing in Ruissalo during the weekend. The Forum Marinum Maritime Centre is a lively and versatile centre for maritime activities, comprising a national special maritime museum, and the Finnish Navy Museum. In addition to being a maritime place of interest, the Forum Marinum is also a venue for meetings and public events Theatre, Musicals, Jazz-festival, Museums, etc.
