In this PowerPoint we will cover discuss what each lesson will be over in the entire Broadway Unit. We will be covering the creation and history of Broadway. In the next lesson we will discuss the longest running and most successful Broadway shows. An event that is synonymous with Broadway is the Tony Awards. We will discuss the importance and history of these prominent awards.

3 LESSON 1 – The Creation of Broadway
View the History of Broadway PowerPoint presentation. Start the presentation with a short question and answer over any pre-existing knowledge the student may have of Broadway.  Begin presentation over the History of Broadway. You will be asked your opinion on why a specific event might have happened. After the presentation, begin the discussion. 5 LESSON 3 – The Tony Awards
Note taking PowerPoint of "Tony Awards" We will cover: The American Theatre Wing General History (Debut, Creation, Namesake, etc.) The Medallion Early Years of the Awards The Television Era You will have an essay for homework, with criteria that needs to be met on the rubric to be given during the class time. &platform=LAT Broadway App

6 Closure The purpose of this unit is to expand the musical horizons of my students. The world of musical theatre is something not many students in high school will be exposed to. It could also help increase participation in the drama and music programs by adding interest into the programs.
