All Change: Statutory Requirements
History: Children will learn about the rise of the British Empire and it’s influence on the wider world then and today. British lives and technologies. To describe some benefits of the growth of the railway network in Great Britain. Name some important individuals, famous locomotives and early railway lines. Describe some of the main train routes in Great Britain. Explain both positive and negative effects of the railways. Science: Investigating pitch and volume through the use of musical instruments. Making working string telephones. Understanding how sound waves produce and transmit sound and how we hear. Children will have learnt through the tasks planned: To interpret a range of sources of historical information. Connections, contrasts and trends over time and develop the use of appropriate historical terms. Construct informed responses that involve thoughtful selection and organisation of relevant historical information. To understand how our knowledge of the past is constructed from a range of sources. Thinking Skills: What do the children already know? What would they like to find out? What have the learnt? Social Studies: Collaborative and co-operative working Turn taking Listening skills English: We will studying ‘The Mousehole Cat’ by Antonia Barber this term. Creative and descriptive writing Newspaper reports Letter and diary writing Performance poetry & Drama – speaking and listening Story maps Spelling patterns and topic words for spelling Handwriting 4x per week Maths: Measuring sound using dB. Bar charts and time graphs. Reasoning and problem solving. Maths discreet planning.

PE: Music: Art/DT: To design and build a motorised working train.
Design with purpose in mind. Make products by working efficiently. Refine work and techniques as work progresses, continually evaluating the product design. Computing: Music And Sound: • listen to a variety of recordings of poems and sound poems and evaluate the style and effectiveness of the performance •working as a group, develop a sound poem to perform and record •plan and record audio •evaluate and re-record (editing as appropriate) •publish work online as a podcast on the class blog PE: Outdoor and Adventurous Activities. Develop pupils problem solving skills in a variety of situations in adventurous activities. Enable pupils to plan and work successfully as individuals, in pairs and in groups. Develop pupils understanding of the importance and significance of rules and safety RE: This term we will be focusing on Incarnation and the ‘Big Question’: ‘What is the Trinity?’ The Bible text we will be exploring in detail is Matthew 3:11-17; we will also be discussing The Grace: 2 Corinthians 13:14. . Music: The children will be developing their own sound poems and vocal and percussive compositions inspired by trains and railways.
