Louisiana READ Update:
“The students in our local summer school program that also included the [READ] students read over 27,000 e-books in July (2017)! If we hadn't attended the National Title I Conference last year in Houston, this would have never occurred. We met the Capstone group there and they connected us with our state myON rep. We helped set her up with the local school system staff who were in charge of the summer literacy program and the e-book program happened. Very exciting culmination to our summer!”

Missouri READ OPERATION FOODSEARCH, A USDA program that utilizes AmeriCorp staff, has distributed over 3,000 books to students who come to food trucks around St. Louis County to distribute lunches to students. They have been given to children of all ages directly from mobile meals vans. One location has even started a book club. An AmeriCorps team member, Christine, asks the children daily about what they’ve read and/or learned by reading. She is very excited to be part of the summer meals program and this takes to another level. Operation Food Search is grateful for the R.E.A.D Book Grant partnership and looks forward to continuing going forward. This is an AmeriCorps member, Angel, handing out books to the children at one of our mobile meals stops. I was at a meal site today and Christine was handing out the books, asking the children to tell her about the books she had given them a couple days before. The kids really love the books and are very excited when they get to receive a book, or a couple, with their meal! This project will continue through out the summer.
