ACADEMIC INTEGRITY Academic Integrity Policy regarding cheating and plagiarism Cheating is the use of any dishonest, deceptive, or fraudulent means to obtain academic credit Plagiarism is the act of representing the work of another as one’s own without proper citation or referencing the original author Review subsections of this policy; cannot stress this enough Each instructor you have will uphold this policy and expect you to follow these rules Another very important expectation is our Academic Integrity Policy regarding cheating and plagiarism. Cheating is the use of any dishonest, deceptive, or fraudulent means to obtain academic credit. Plagiarism is the act of representing the work of another as one’s own without proper citation or referencing the original author. Make sure to review the subsections of this policy. I cannot stress this enough. Each instructor you have will uphold this policy and expect you to follow these rules.

PROCESS FLOWCHART Violate policy = our office initiates the student discipline process Policy violations are resolved: (1) Conference and (2) Hearing Conference is a facilitated discussion between the Student Conduct Administrator and the student End result is an agreed upon outcome between the two parties Hearing involves another University administrator, authority to impose an outcome One additional component when a case involves cheating and plagiarism Now, if a student were to violate policy, our office initiates the student discipline process. Policy violations are resolved in one of two ways: (1) Conference and (2) Hearing. The Conference is a facilitated discussion between the Student Conduct Administrator and the student. The end result is an agreed upon outcome between the two parties. The Hearing is slightly different, it involves another University administrator, who has the authority to impose an outcome. There is one additional component I would like to emphasize when a case involves cheating and plagiarism.

ACADEMIC PROCESS Instructor imposes an academic sanction
Impact on the student’s grade in the course Student will receive a lower grade/F on the evaluation instrument (exam, assignment, paper) or the course In academic integrity cases, where cheating or plagiarism occurs, the instructor imposes an academic sanction. This means there is an impact on the student’s grade in the course. In most cases, a student will receive a lower grade or F on the evaluation instrument (exam, assignment, paper) or the course as a whole.
