The different media industries use different platforms although many use more than one. For example, printed newspapers are now available online for people to read and subscribe to. This is because most people now have smartphones and tablets and would rather look at the news this way, rather than physically buy a newspaper. Bringing the news online ensures that they get high audience figures. Companies have no choice but to do this now, as less and less people are buying newspapers and demand is higher online. Going digital is a similar story for the radio industry too. Many radio stations are not only switching to digital radio but are also releasing apps for smartphones and tablets. Releasing apps means that consumers can listen to the radio on the go, wherever they are. More and more people are listening via their smartphones and tablets as it is easy and has good sound quality. Social networking is the most interactive media platform. This is how we communicate with each other online and social media has quickly become part of our every day life. Social media lets us connect with each other in a way that other platforms doesn’t. Other industries have began to incorporate social media within their work. For example, radio stations ask us to connect with them through Facebook or twitter to request songs or get involved. Social media is a quick and simply way to connect and interact with other people and is the strongest platform in the media industry.
