2. Introduction
Basel and Stockholm Conventions Regional Center in Tehran established to assist Parties in order to serve the Basel Convention and Stockholm Convention Regulations in the south and west Asia. The Stockholm Convention Regional Center was established for capacity building and technology transfer by COP5, May 2011.

3. The purpose of the SCRC in Iran is providing technical assistance and promoting the transfer of environmentally sound technology to countries in the South and West Asia.

The regional workshop on “ Co-processing of Hazardous Wastes and Wastes under Basel and Stockholm Conventions in Cement Kilns” from 4 to 5 Oct in International Hall of DOE of Iran.
The workshop on “PCB management and the contaminated materials and equipments” from 9 to 10 Nov

5. Information on Expertise Currently Available in SCRC in Iran
SCRC in Iran is updating NIPs in Iran
Identification and promotion of BAT & BEP
Identification and disposal of POPs
Identification remediation of sites contaminated POPs
Capacity building and institutions at the national and local levels. Also SCRC in Iran signed Memorandum of Understanding with related governmental and nongovernmental organizations in order to strengthen the potentials of them.

6. Training of technical personnel
Promotion of awareness raising and information dissemination programmes, including awareness- raising among the general public and issues related to the Convention

7. Goals and Objectives
Strengthen implementation of Stockholm Convention in the south and west Asia
To improve synergy among Basel, Stockholm and Rotterdam Conventions in the region
Environmentally Sound Management of POPs and new chemicals in the region
Improve exchange information in the region
To empower the rules and acts to authorities to control the management of hazardous waste, produce and emission of POPs pesticides
Improve BAT/BEP of POPs

Annual workshop on Environmentally Sound Management of PCBs in the region
Develop training and awareness rising workshops and seminars on new POPs in the region

10. Constraints Limited funds and resource mobilization
Lack of communications and information exchange among Centers and Parties in the region
