QUESTION 1 How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

QUESTION 1 - Classical Conventions
In our romantic comedy we use the classical film formula. The main character, accompanied by her friend, explains her struggle to find “the one.” In a simple twist of events, an incident occurs where the two bump into each other, and the rest is history. Our opening sequence sets up this plot perfectly. The main character Liza complains to her companion Tay about meeting her “knight in shining armor,” when all of a sudden she drops her phone leaving the perfect opportunity for a blessing in disguise to swoop in and help her. This is the classic incident that brings the two together, setting the tone for their relationship while also connecting them to the main theme of the story.

QUESTION 1 – Topics for Discussion
Our film represents the classic, desperate search for love, something that every individual craves. We are able to show that if you keep your head held high, stick to your true self, and have faith in fate, you will find the right person for you. Who knows? Your Knight in shining armor could be just around the corner. While you need to need to have hope for the future, you cannot create a fake façade of what is right in front of you. The main character Liza seems to be living in a fantasy world, creating the “perfect man,” which doesn’t exist. This is an unhealthy mental state in which a person is let down constantly by what isn’t really there. Although a seemly perfect match steps in the save the day by picking up her cell phone, she almost reject him because he isn’t the image she had in her mind.

QUESTION 2 How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

QUESTION 2 – Now I have your Attention
Romantic comedies have to be one of the most pleasing genres of films today. It is a perfect mix for the hopeless romantic who wants to see a true love form but also wants to see the more goofy side of a relationship. Our film has a wow factor because it invites you into a different time period with a modern twist. Although they are surround by a completely different time period, you can see everyday people using their phones to text and take pictures. The film also invites you in, allowing you to feel as if you are part of the movie, walking around and enjoying the renaissance fair. All combined, you are able to fall hopelessly in love with the main characters, laugh and have a good time, while also enjoying the atmosphere of the exciting fair.

QUESTION 2 - Buy your Ticket NOW!
We would have Universal Pictures distribute our film. Focus Features has done a lot of films in our genre such as “Moonrise Kingdom”. The parent company of Focus Features is Universal. Universal is part of the “big six” and can be recognized by many people. Marketing our film will have a more comedic twist. Funny posters, actor interviews on popular shows such as The Late Late Show with James Cordon, and social media activity such as snapchat filters and a twitter account. Combined, people will be ecstatic to buy their tickets when the film is in the theater. To distribute our film to all different types of audiences we would show it in theaters such as Regal and AMC. After releasing the film in the United States, we can do an international release in larger countries such as the UK and Canada.

QUESTION 3 – Personal Development
Overall the process of learning how to brain storm ideas for a film, creating a plot, shooting the film, and then piece them together was a fulfilling task that allowed me to create something that I am proud to show to others. This is a new skill I can use in the future, even possibly in my workplace. I would even suggest to everyone to either take this class or try to create a short film. Working with a Group – In my group of four total, I learned how to bounce ideas off of one another to create and agree on one idea. I developed my skills on communication and how I explain my ideas and opinions to others. Storyboards – This was one of my favorite parts of the project. As an artsiest and visual learner, I could see and develop my teams ideas on how the film should look. This structure played a huge role in making the filming process flow easily and allowed everyone to stay organized while editing clips together.

QUESTION 3 – Learn more Everyday
Dump Videos – For the first time I learned how to properly upload our clips we had filmed into the editing software. Then the process of uploading them onto the timeline to stich the videos in the order we wanted them in allowed our creative side to come out. Titles – To add in the opening titles over the moving clip was a new technique I learned. The process of looking online to download new, exciting fonts to add to the aesthetic of the film was something I could use for our film, but also future projects I have. Music – One skill that I really appreciate now is downloading music. The process of searching for the perfect song, checking to see if didn’t have copy rights, and then downloading and uploading into the software was something I had never done before. I am excited to do this is the future.

QUESTION 4 – Are you Connected?
Overall, without the use of technology to film and edit the clips, our final film would not have been possible. We used a video camera to film and a computer to film, but the additions are what really helped the entire process come to life. To edit our video together we used Pinnacle Studios, the 18th edition. Without this tool the creative genius to have the clips combined in specific areas at certain times couldn’t have happened. The Internet itself also played a large role on how we kept a record of the process and published our film for the world to see. We used the site WordPress to blog and document the process from beginning to end. Once our video was finished, we posted it on the video sharing site, YouTube. This website allows anyone with internet connection to view, like, and share it to others.
