Texas and US, Average Cause of death for is based on the Ninth Revision, International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9); cause of death for after is based on the Tenth Revision, International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10). Maternal death: one that occurs during pregnancy or within 42 days of the end of a pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by a woman's pregnancy, but not from accidental or incidental causes. Beginning in 2003, data are impacted by the 2003 revision of the U.S. Standard Certificate of Death that introduced a standard question format for maternal deaths and therefore may not be comparable to previous years.
