2 What is FSSE? (pronounced “fessie”)
An instrument designed to measure faculty expectations of student engagement in educational practices that are linked with high levels of learning and development.

3 FSSE 2003 Pilot Test Completed at 143 colleges/universities
Completed by over 14,000 faculty members All institutions participated in NSSE also

4 FSSE 2003 at UTPA Completed by 145 faculty members
57% males, 43% females

5 Types of Questions Included
Gender, race & ethnicity, discipline taught. Time spent preparing for class. Course emphasis. Expectations from students. Class & homework assignments. Time spent in class (lecture, discussion, etc.). Emphasis on engaging students in cognitive activities.
