3 Response to Intervention/3 Tiers
5% weekly progress- monitoring data driven intensive, individualized instruction inside or outside general education setting evidence-based best practice Tier 3 – Intensive Intervention 5% students not responding to Tier 1 and 2 frequent progress monitoring (every other week) data driven small or 1:1 groupings usually general education setting evidence-based best practice 20% Tier 2 – Supplemental Instruction 15 -20% of Tier 1 students 100% progress monitoring data driven flexible grouping: whole, small, 1:1 general education setting evidence-based best practice all services support Tier 1 80% students are successful focus on all students Tier 1 – Core Classroom Instruction 100% students

5 RTI goals are to be measurable and attainable in a specific amount of time.

6 To set a goal for student academic performance, three elements are needed:
The student’s baseline academic performance. Estimate of expected weekly progress. Number of weeks for the intervention trial.

7 Collect Data Examples: DRA2 results Word Analysis Running Records
Math Fluency tests Sight Word Assessments Curriculum based measure EasyCBM StarMath

8 How many instructional weeks
The teacher decides how many instructional weeks the intervention will be in place (e.g.,6- 8 weeks).

9 Academic Problems Description of Measure Suggested Behavior Goals
Oral Reading Fluency Increase __ Correct Read Words Per Minute to ___ Math Computation: Specify Computation Problem Type(s) Increase __ Correct Digits Per 2 Minutes to ___ Writing: Total Words Increase __ Total Words in 3 Minutes to ___ Writing: Correctly Spelled Words Increase __ Words Spelled Correctly in 3 Minutes to ___ Writing: Correct Writing Sequences Increase __ Correct Writing Sequences in 3 Minutes to ___ Initial Sound Fluency (ISF) Increase ISFs Correctly Per Minute to ___ Increase ISFs from ____ to ______ Word Analysis Task 11 in four minutes. Letter Naming Fluency (LNF) Increase LNFs Correctly Per Minute to ___ Oral Reading Fluency (ORF): Specify Reading/Monitoring Level Increase Words Correctly Per Minute to ___

10 Academic Problems Permanent Work Products (Classroom Assignments)
Description of Measure Suggested Behavior Goals Amount of Work Completed Increase the Average Percentage of Work Completed to __% Accuracy of Work Completed Increase the Average Percentage of Work Done Correctly to __% Quality of Work Completed Increase the Average Grade in [Subject Area] to ____ Increase Teacher Ratings on a [Subject Area] Rubric to ____

11 Academic Problems Homework Assignments Description of Measure
Suggested Behavior Goals Work turned in Increase the Average Number of Times per Week When Homework is Turned in to ____ Amount of Work Completed Increase the Average Amount of Homework Completed Correctly to ____ Accuracy of Work Completed Increase the Average Percentage of Homework Completely Correctly to ___ Quality of Work Completed Increase the Average Student Grade on Homework to ___ Increase Teacher Ratings of the Quality of Student Work Using an Evaluation Rubric to ___

12 Example of RTI goal What is the presenting concern? (State in specific and measurable terms) Student struggles with identifying and using initial sounds. Student received a 9/48 on task 11 in DRA word analysis What data supports the existence of the problem? (Baseline data): DRA2 level 2, MLPP Initial 6/28, 9/48 on task 11 in DRA word analysis What is the goal? (State in specific and measurable terms) Student will increase identification and use of initial sounds from 9/48 to 20/48 within 6 weeks.

13 Example RTI Goal for a 3rd grade student
What is the presenting concern? (State in specific and measurable terms) Student struggles with basic addition. Student can correctly answer 4 out of 20 addition problems on 2 minute timed test. What data supports the existence of the problem? (Baseline data): StarMath =1.3, Student can correctly answer 4 out of 20 addition problems on 2 minute timed test. What is the goal? (State in specific and measurable terms) Student will increase number of basic addition problems from 4/20 to 20/20 on 2 minute timed test in 6 weeks.
