2. Language versions Result of discussions with J.Gillies and M.Metzger:
English and French are the official CERN languages.
CERN aims to have all key publications available in
English, French, German and Italian for next year. Other language versions come ad-hoc.

Provide MS with new material if help is needed
to produce language material without serious delay.

5. Language versions
On the CERN web pages there is no clear language policy:
From an introductory German page
users quickly fall back to English pages. Spanish is sometimes supported but not Italian.
ESA e.g. has a fairly clear web strategy: you fall into the language of your IP domain, 17 languages are supported with clear boundaries, ESA’s many space missions are well integrated (= our expts.).
Consider the ESA model !
Needs proper central web structure = time + manpower !
Ask council !
Discuss responsibility on national pages: CERN or MS ?

6. … and their distribution in the Member States
Result of discussions with J.Gillies and M.Metzger:
CERN's communication budget and manpower are limited.
CERN requests fees for purchase and shipment
for orders of >100 brochures.
For central communication tasks of MS this does not correspond
to their financial contributions.
Ask Council to adapt CO budget
to its role for CERN communication in Europe.
Distribution: Should (large) MS follow the CERN Courier model?
DESY volunteers to take over distribution in Germany.
Place orders for LHC opening 2008:

Orders until when + to whom?
