Designers are creative people who use a wealth of knowledge and inspiration in order to create products that are functional and aesthetic. Many designs fail, which is fine – this is part of the process and from failure comes development and success. By watching the clip you will see the development of modelling through a technical method using sustainable materials. Having found a design that can be developed further CAD drawings and CAM will be used to develop the concept to the production stage, We are looking for you to develop your modelling and creative skills by copying the designer in their work. Task Food is either seasonal or available throughout the year these days and before global transportation you didn’t get tropical food in winter in the UK. Analyse your fresh food and where has it come from – far away or near by ? Expected Outcome A better understanding of distance that food travels an how from around the world. How can you adapt what you eat in the future to reduce the miles travelled ? Skills Audit Where food is sourced from - Global awareness. What are Food Miles? Food miles are a way of attempting to measure how far food has travelled before it reaches the consumer. It is a good way of looking at the environmental impact of foods and their ingredients. It includes getting foods to you, but also getting waste foods away from you, and to the landfill! What Does That Mean? It means that it is time to think about where your food has come from and what environmental effects this has had. What Are The Effects? The effects of food miles can be measured in the pollution that is caused. Think about the distance travelled, then think about how that distance was covered. Was it by Plane? Boat? 4 Task You have completed the rendering task now put your skills into practice and design your own personalised T-shirt. You must use coloured pencils only to demonstrate your skills Expected Outcome Use the squared grid to produce a geometric logo design.
