Jars for Japan Petchompoo (Mo) Sanpanit “You must become the change you wish to see in the world” - Mohandas Karamchand Ganhdi The table was set up with jars for 2 weeks. Over 200 T-shirts was being sold for $10 and $15 dollars. Jars for Japan raised over $1600 within 2 weeks from selling T-shirts and accept money donations. There were Jars in different departments on campus. Students and faculties were stopping by and donate since the start from the end. March 11,2011 On the early morning of March 11, Japan was shaking by a massive earthquake followed by aftershocks, Tsunami, and nuclear explosion. The following day “Jars for Japan” a non-profit fundraiser was created on WSU campus. The money was send to The American Red Cross “Japan Relief” into the account of Japanese Red Cross. "Each of us as human beings has a responsibility to reach out to help our brothers and sisters affected by disasters. One day it may be us or our loved ones needing someone to reach out and help." -Michael W. Hawkins, American Red Cross On campus departments sponsoring the project are the Multicultural Student Center, The International Student Center, College of Health Profession, WSUSA Student Senate, The Community Involvement Center, and The Printing Service. As well as the community sponsoring from The Music Shop in Ogden for producing the T-shirts. The T-shirts was the most popular and got the most feedback. People were interested in the design and the meaning of the project’s symbol. The colors relates to the Japanese’s flag, the cracks relates to the earthquakes, the whole picture itself looks like a jar that the Japanese use for their tea ceremony which is very peaceful. The symbol overall represents Japan as a whole. Open up your hearts and support international efforts by contributing funds/products to the Japanese Tsunami 2011 victims
