Print production

Linocut

Linocut is a printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of
linoleum is used for the relief surface. A design is cut into the linoleum surface with a sharp knife, V-shaped chisel or gouge, with the raised areas representing a reversal of the parts to show printed. The linoleum sheet is inked with a roller and then impressed onto paper or fabric. Linocut

Screen printing

Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink blocking stencil to receive a desired image. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A fill blade or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink into the mesh openings for transfer by capillary action during the squeegee stroke. Basically, it is the process of using a stencil to apply ink on to another material whether it be t-shirts, posters, stickers, vinyl, wood, or any material that can keep the image on to its surface. 8 Gravure

In direct image carriers such as gravure cylinders, the ink is applied directly to the cylinder and from the cylinder it is transferred to the substrate Gravure

Lithography

Lithography originally used an image drawn with oil/fat/wax on the surface of lithographic limestone plate, which after being treated with a mixture of acid and gum arabic, and then with water, did attract ink, but only in the drawing's sticky areas and not in the wet etched areas clear of oil/fat/wax, which application prevented etching. The ink was then transferred to a blank paper sheet producing a printed page. Lithography

Laser printing

Laser printing is a printing process that rapidly produces high quality text and graphics by passing a laser beam over a charged drum to define a differentially charged image. Laser printing

Photocopying

Photocopying is a process where documents are copied onto paper quickly and cheaply
