Gifts That We've Been Given (Through The Major Feast Days Of The Lord)! How Giving Helps Each Of Us Individually
7
What is the first we think of when we are asked to “give back” something?
8
What Do We Think Of First?
Why??? $$$ Example: Miss Pappas Example: Mr. Pappas Why??? Time, Talent, Treasure What is the lowest (deepest) level? Our foundation…if we explore this, it should answer why we should give...
9
Merriam-Webster's Dictionary
Stewardship: "The careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care"
10
The Lord provides us with clues about ourselves…
11
As we strive to be good managers of our lives, we should continually try to…
Submit our will to God’s will by giving up some of our desires (and tendencies) in some small way. Give back to God some small portion of all that He has given us to manage.
12

Because of our fallen nature, we are weak to our passions (tendencies)… Pride: lack of humility befitting a creature of God Greed: too great a desire for money or worldly goods Lust: impure, unworthy desire for something evil Anger: unworthy irritation or lack of self control Gluttony: the habit of eating and drinking too much Envy: jealousy of another’s happiness Sloth: laziness from giving back to God and man

Christ gives us many examples:
The Annunciation: “Let it be to me according to your word” The Widow’s Mite Gospel reading of the Paralytic Man - Humility - Liberality - Diligence He also gives us examples of those who did not attempt to follow… Rich Man and Lazarus Fool! This night your soul is required of you! - Gluttony (lack of Temperance) - Greed And one who finally listened to Our Lord calling him back… Parable of the Prodigal Son

Communicate the gifts that we have been given!
We own: Cars (approximately): $500, $1,000,000 or more Homes (approximately): $5 million $15 million or more This year, we will spend: On vacations: $250, $500,000 On Christmas, wedding, and other gifts: $250,000 (conservatively) Rough estimates based on an average 100-family parish
33
What if each of us in this room…
... pledged an additional $10/week to our church? $10 x 50 (weeks) x 80 (families) = $40,000!!! …lit three candles each day for our families? $3 x 365 (days) x $87,600!!!
34
What are some common questions that we hear asked?
Why don’t people increase their giving? How can we get people to increase their giving? Why don’t some people even consider giving? How about this perspective…
